Kankakee River: Flood warning remains until Thursday

The Kankakee River has held its own since the weekend thaw with warmer0020temps. Water levels at Shelby, IN and at Momence have not posed any threats of flooding since the ice jams during last week’s arctic weather.

At Wilmington, the Will County EMA reports the weekend-melt did not create any additional threat.

A flood warning for the Kankakee River remains in effect until Thursday. The warning covers the river from Shelby, Ind., to Wilmington.

The river has been at or in moderate flooding since Jan. 26 because of ice jams that have formed, including a 7-mile stretch east and west of Wilmington. Minor flooding is in the forecast.
