Bradley Chiropractor & former Office Manager plead guilty
A Bradley chiropractor and his office manager are looking at federal prison time after both pleaded guilty to bank and wire fraud and filing false income tax returns and failure to file tax returns.
Both had ties to the Bradley (IL) Chiropractic Clinic.
The U.S. Federal Court in Urbana reported Monday, 72-year-old Joseph Mayotte of Kankakee admitted defrauding Blue Cross / Blue Shield Insurance with false billings worth more than $250,000. Mayotte also admitted failing to file federal income tax returns from 2011 - 2014. Mayotte is scheduled to be sentenced in June.
Last November, the clinic's former office manager, Connie Leadingham of Watseka pleaded guilty to bank fraud and filing false income tax returns. Leadingham admitted submitting the false billings, then wrote checks to herself worth more than $380,000. She also admitted not disclosing the fraudulent funds to the IRS from 2011 - 2013. Leadingham is scheduled to be sentenced in March.
The maximum statutory penalty for wire fraud is 20 years in prison; for bank fraud the penalty is up to 30 years in prison.
The charges are the result of investigation by the FDIC, IRS, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
