Meanwhile – Crescent-Iroquois school district #249 said No to consolidation with Watseka Unit #9.
The issues needed to pass in both Watseka and Crescent-Iroquois. The Watseka district approved the consolidation 73 – 26%. It failed in Crescent City on 53-46% margin. (228 No 201 Yes)
School leaders say it’s time to move forward. They thank voters for their input.
Several community meetings by the two school districts laid out the financial picture showing aging buildings and a struggle to hire teachers.
At Iroquois West, the school board pointed to 100-year-old buildings in need of repair or replacement.
