Criticism looms in expected County Board appoiontment

The expected-appointment to fill a vacancy on the Iroquois County Board is stirring criticism. And – it hasn't even happened yet.

Tuesday's Iroquois County Board meeting agenda includes the appointment to fill a vacancy in District 4, the seat of former board member Susan Wynn Bence. Her resignation came when she accepted a position in the Illinois Lt. Governor's Office.

The likely candidate to fill the seat, according to sources, is Dan Joyce of rural Watseka. Joyce is a two-time County Board candidate who failed to get the support of voters.

The Republican Precinct Committeemen have recommended Joyce. The official appointment will come from the Board Chairman, Kyle Anderson, after a Search & Credential committee is asked to review the nominee.

The brewing criticism from past board members and citizens is that vacancies should not be filled by people voters have said 'No' to.

Tuesday's meeting is 9 am at the Administrative Center.
