Relay For Life 2019 in Iroquois County is on the calendar for June 7 at Watseka High School’s Blake Field. This year’s goal is to raise $100,000 with hopes of having 30 teams involved in the fun activity from 5-11 pm.
The goals for the 2019 event were announced at the kick-off meeting this week (Tuesday). Tiffany Neukomm and Lynda Guinnee serve as ch-chairs. Guineee, who’s headed up the effort in past years, says “we want more growth, more people, more teams and obviously, more survivors.”
This year’s theme will be “And the winner is ... NOT cancer!”
Teams are encouraged to use sports, emphasizing competition in their sportswear and fundraising events.
Iroquois County stepped into the Relay for Life arena in 2001. The county earned top awards per capita in the state and country. The event has stepped up each year, adding dollars and enthusiasm to the American Cancer Society effort.
Individuals, businesses, schools, churches, civic groups are all urged to get involved. Corporate sponsors are most appreciated. Meetings are scheduled to update fundraising progress. The next meeting is April 2 at 6 pm at the high school.
