Kankakee primary: Incumbent defeated

At least two new people will serve the Kankakee City Council after the April 2nd election.

Vote results from a low voter turnout in Tuesday's Primary shows Ward 1 and Ward 6 will find new faces taking seats in the spring.

Veteran Ward 6 alderman Dennis Baron did not seek re-election. Tuesday's Republican primary finds Ed Pentuic a winner over Stephen Kelley. The Democratic winner was Michael Cobbs over Tommie Ivy Sr.

In Ward 1, incumbent Democrat Gloria Kennedy was defeated by Michael Prude.

In Ward 2, on the Democratic side, Alderman Mike O'Brien defeated Calvin Works.

A female Mayor will serve Chicago ---

Lori Lightfoot and Toni Preclwinkle was compete in an April 2nd run-off to becoem the next mayor of Chicago.  One will become the first African-American woman to serve the third largest city in the United States.  Lightfoot and Preckwinkle earned 17 and 16% of the vote in Tuesday's Primary election. There were 14 candidates seeking the office to replace Rahm Emmanuel, who did not seek re-election.
