-amends River Conservancy District Act –
The Iroquois County Board today (Tuesday) gave its blessing to an Illinois House bill that’ll focus its attention on the flooding that plays havoc on much of the region.
HB 2583, introduced by State Rep. Tom Bennett, finds several such water districts working together to expand the conservancy district for the betterment of all concerned.
Iroquois County Board Chairman John Shure explained Iroquois, Kankakee and INdiana counties have been working on mitigation efforts. Shure said Rep. Bennett has been a good trigger-man to get people together.
"The purpose of this is to maybe make an anitiquated conservancy district more workable to meet today's needs." Shure said.
Shure explained the conservancy district dates back 100 years, 14 districts statewide. The nearest is on Kankakee River between Momence the Indiana Sate Line. It provides for maintenance and mitigation.
