New unemployment numbers show the jobless rates have been rising across East Central Illinois. The January numbers are latest figures available from the Illinois Department of Employment Security and U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
In Iroquois County -- the January unemployment rate of 6.6 percent is up from 5.2 percent a year ago. The unemployment rate in Vermilion County rose from 6.4 percent in December to an even seven percent in January. Champaign County’s unemployment rate rose one percent to 5.4 percent.The City of Danville’s jobless rate climbed from 6.6 to 7.1 percent. Kankakee County continues to boast a growing number of jobs, among the leaders in the state.
