The new administration in Kankakee is flexing its muscle. Mayor-elect Chris Curtis has already stated he’ll be seeking new leadership in the police department. Now – Fire Chief Damon Schuldt is out. Schuldt informed the media (Tuesday evening) he’s resigned as fire chief. His last day is Friday, April 30.
Schuldt said he was informed by Mayor-elect Curtis he was not the mayor’s choice for the department. The 58-year-old Schuldt has served as fire chief since May 2017. He’s been with the fire department since December 1990.
Curtis has also stated he’d be choosing a new person to head the police department. Frank Kosman has been serving as police chief in the soon-to-be former Mayor Chasity Wells-Armstrong administration.
Curtis defeated first-term Mayor (Chasity) Wells-Armstrong in the April 6 municipal election. Curtis will be sworn-in as the new Kankakee mayor Monday, May 3.
