A speeding motorist led Newton County Sheriff’s Police on a chase Monday that ended with a Chicago man’s arrest. Sheriff’s Police initiated a traffic stop on US 41 at CR1000 S (north of Kentland).

The driver and one passenger fled from the stop in their vehicle. The vehicle was pursued northbound on US 41 passing through SR 16 and SR 114 at high speeds.

North of the Morocco overpass the driver lost control of his vehicle, due ...to the road conditions, and spun out crashing into a fence and gate east of US 41. Both occupants were detained immediately.

The driver, 21 year old, male from Chicago was arrested and taken to the Newton County Jail with charges including, resisting law enforcement, criminal mischief, and reckless driving.

The 19 year old passenger, also from Chicago was released with no charges.
