The water levels have been going up and down around the area.

Flood waters in Iroquois and Kankakee counties have forced people from their homes. Businesses have been forced to close. And more rain could pose more worries and headaches in the days ahead.

Rainfall amounts have varied across central-Illinois have ranged from 2.5 to more than five inches in three days. Sugar Creek and the Iroquois River are still being monitored.

The Iroquois River is expected to crest at 26.3 feet. Sugar Creek peaked at just above 28 feet, 13 feet above flood stage.

The Kankakee River at Shelby, IN set a new record Wednesday at 15.2 feet, four feet above flood stage. The Iroquois River at Rensselaer, IN also crested Wednesday at 16.7 feet, five feet above flood stage.

Cissna Park, Milford and Watseka and Woodland were dealing with fast-moving flood waters.

Iroquois County Emergency Management Agency’s Eric Ceci reported a Red Cross shelter is open at Trinity Church in Watseka. An animal shelter is also available for pet owners forced from their homes.
