Some two dozen fire departments responded to an apartment building fire in St. Anne (Saturday). More than two dozen people were also displaced. No reports of injury. The American Red Cross has provided help to those left homeless.
The flames gutted the two-story brick building in the 200-block of S. Chicago Avenue. A neighboring 10-unit apartment complex also sustained damage.
The St. Anne Post Office next door to the second building was spared, but does have smoke damage.
Firemen answered the initial just before 3:30 pm. Several Iroquois County fire departments provided additional water supplies. Firefighters were at the scene until 11 pm.
Early reports indicated the fire started in a downstairs apartment. The cause was under investigation.
