Kankakee County is officially on record as opposing the proposed Great Lakes Basin Railroad. The County Board (Tuesday) gave its OK, approving a letter be sent to the Transportation Service Board stating opposing the project that would bring a railroad hub from Cook County and consume acres of farm ground from Manteno west.

The Farm Bureau and other ag organizations have stated their opposition as well. Property owners are on record against the project that would wipe out too many acres of farm ground and eliminate ag jobs.

Eleven counties, including those from east central Illinois and northwest Indiana, are unified in opposition to the project.
