The parent company that owns Bergner’s and Carson Pirie Scott department stores has confirmed the chains will soon close.
Two Carson stores in Northfield Square Mall at Bradley will close over the next 60-90 days. They’re two of 31 Illinois stores to be shuttered.
The Northfield Square Mall lost its Sears-Roebuck store just two weeks ago. JC Penney is the lone anchor store left in Bradley.
Bergner’s stores in Champaign, Bloomington and Decatur will also close.
Bon-Ton announced (Wednesday) that a liquidation firm won the bid for the company during Tuesday’s auction overseen by a bankruptcy court. Operations at Bon-Ton’s nearly 260 stores will begin closing procedures. The bankruptcy court approved the sale this week.
The company has not released a timeline of the closure of the Bergner’s stores, including the one in Bloomington’s Eastland Mall which has been open since 1973.
