Reports of dead fish and other wildlife along a 10-mile stretch of Coon Creek in Iroquois County is under investigation.

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the state Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has been notified of the wildlife-kill and potential danger discovered last Friday. The affected area is between 2850E and 3000E... running along Coon Creek to the mouth of Sugar Creek.

Officials in Woodland notified the state agencies after dead fish and other species were discovered. Evidence has been collected. Some sort of chemical tank showed fertilizer content appears to be responsible for the aftermath left behind. A state investigator indicated the contamination may have occurred last Tuesday (5/15).

Officials expressed concern of dead wildlife and a bald eagle that may have been feeding on the affected-remains along the creek-bed. A foul odor also triggered concern in that, kids fishing the area and pets could be in danger.
