Weather was generally much cooler than usual around Illinois for the Fourth of July Weekend.

But if you thought it was much warmer than normal for June you were right. The state's average temperature was nearly three degrees higher than normal and it will go down as the 14th warmest June on the books.

State Climatologist Jim Angel adds though, "That doesn't tell the whole story. Western and southern Illinois were much drier with many location reports less than an inch."
Angel noted Pittsfield recorded .13 inches of rain in June.

"Eastern and northern Illinois were much wetter with amounts of 3 to 5 inches very common across that area," Angel said.

Streator had the most rainfall in June at 9.71 inches.

WGFA's official NWS report for June was 4.34.

The lower half of the state picked up much needed rains this past weekend, washing out some firework shows but boosting the states' agriculture business.
