Gibson City benefits from $100,000 grant to improve lighting

Gibson City is the recipient of nearly $100,000 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for lighting improvements in the downtown area.

The Gibson City council had already approved the plan for changing the downtown lighting and was waiting for grant approval.

A total of 32 lights will replace the aging Ameren Illinois-supplied silver street lights.

A two-week bid advertisement began March 29. Bid opening is planned for April 8 at city hall.

The lighting work is scheduled to after July 4 and completed by early August.
