The possibility of heavy rainfall has the National Weather Service issuing a heads-up for potential flash flooding this week. An ‘Alert’ calls for east-central Illinois and west-central Indiana citizens to be prepared for emergency action. Heavy rainfall may lead to flooding.
The NWS reports a cold front will become stationary over central Illinois tonight (Wed). Little movement this week could produce heavy locally-concentrated rains. Remnants of Tropical Storm Gordon will move north into the Midwest by Friday. The two systems will combine to produce an extended period of showers and thunderstorms over central Illinois.
Rainfall amounts in Iroquois, Ford, Champaign and Vermilion counties could generate between 3 – 6 inches of rain, according to the NWS at Lincoln (IL).
Flooding is possible, especially if heavy amounts of rain fall over a short period of time. Those people in flood-prone areas should be prepared for emergency action.
