The city of Watseka is in need of revenue. And the Council wants to hear from residents and businesses about their thoughts on raising the sales tax from .75 percent to 2 percent.
A meeting tonight (Monday) welcomes input. It’s at 7 pm at City Hall.
Mayor John Allhands said at least some expressed their thoughts on the matter. If such an increase was in place, the city would also consider reducing property taxes to provide some relief, according to Allhands.
Alderman Mark Garfield stressed, no decisions have been made. This meeting welcomes input from people. Garfield says the city needs revenue. The city records also show the police pension fund is $10-million short.
