The state Fire Marshall is investigating the cause of a fire (Monday) that destroyed a 2-story home along Route 52 at Iroquois County Road 1900 E. Several fire departments answered the 5th-alarm level blaze, discovered by a passing truck driver about 3 pm. Firemen fought the blames for more than six hours. Hot spots were still an issue after 9 pm.
Martinton Fire Chief Jeff Meyer reported no injuries. No one was home when the flames were noticed on the front porch of the house. Firemen rescued a dog and a rabbit from inside.
Among the area fire departments providing mutual aid were Ashku, Chebanse, Concord, Donovan, Papineau and Aroma Park --- to name a few.
I-65 rollover injures 2 people Monday night ---
Two occupants of a car that rolled over along I-65 in Indiana Monday night were air-lifted from the scene. Lowell State Police investigated north of the Remington exit about 8 pm.
No word on the conditions of the occupants, 28-year-old Dranetta Tyler of Gary (IN) and 23-year-old JaJuan Harris of Merrillville (IN).
Police reported the vehicle ran off the road, overturned, ejecting both occupants.
Jasper County Sheriff’s Police and Remington Ambulance were among the agencies assisting at the scene.
