A dead crow found August 27 in Loda tested positive for the West Nile virus. It’s yet another reminder that the weather conditions remain ripe for mosquitos and the potential for West Nile Virus.

The Iroquois County Public Health Department announced Thursday residents still need to protect themselves by cleaning up standing water on their property. And wearing insect repellant is a must to protect yourself.

“The season for West Nile virus will not be over until the weather is much cooler and mosquito larvae are not capable of development,” said Terry Eimen, director of environmental health. “If we have rain in the next few weeks and the temperatures stay elevated, we still have the potential for further mosquito crop development.”
