‘Saturday Saturation’ crackdown

Illinois State Police are leading the charge in conducting a ‘Saturation Saturday’ enforcement this weekend. It’s an effort to remove impaired drivers from roadways. The enforcement initiative is part of the Labor Day ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ campaign.

District 21 at Ashkum and and 10 State Police at Pesotum are participating.

Saturation Saturday is a statewide initiative with Mothers Against Drunk Driving to raise awareness on the dangers of drunk and drugged driving, and increase enforcement to remove and arrest individuals who are driving under the influence.

Troopers across the state will be joining county and local law enforcement agencies as they increase enforcement Saturday evening and early Sunday.

State Police say that as the summer season draws to an end, motorists need to remember:

• Never let family or friends drive impaired.
• Plan ahead. If you are going to be drinking alcoholic beverages consider giving your keys to a designated driver, call a taxi or use mass transit.
• Promptly report drunk drivers to law enforcement by pulling over and calling 9-1-1.
• Make sure everyone in your vehicle wears their seat belt. A seat belt is the best defense against a drunk or impaired driver.
