The National Weather Service has a Heat Advisory in place for east-central parts of Illinois and west-central Indiana until 7 pm Tuesday.
Temperatures are expected in the low 90s each day. The afternoon heat index readings will peak between 100 and 107 degrees. {The heat index is that mix of how hot it feels when you factor the heat with the humidity}.
School websites may have updated info on possible early dismissals due to the heat.
Citizens are advised to take extra precautions in the hot weather. Drink plenty of water, wear light-weight, loose-fitting clothing, stay in air-conditioned rooms, stay out of the sun as much as possible, and check on relatives and neighbors.
Reschedule strenuous activities to the early morning or evening hours.
The conditions could cause heat related illnesses. The very young and elderly, those without air-conditioning, and those who participate in strenuous outdoor activities are those who are most at risk.
Also interiors of cars can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Never leave children or pets in vehicles.
Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Call 9-1-1 for any heat-related emergency.
