Val Jaenicke ends 31-year career with Kankakee City Police Dept.

The Kankakee Police Department recently announced the retirement of longtime administrative assistant Val Jaenicke. She served her last day July 9, having worked under several police chiefs and five different mayors during her career. She said she'll miss her co-workers and the public she served over three decades.

The City's social media posting states Jaenicke began her city career on Oct. 1, 1990, in the police department’s records department under then-Chief Tim Nugent.  Over the years and changes in leadership, she worked under police chiefs Mike Kincade, Bill Doster, Larry Regnier, Price Dumas, Frank Hosman, and interim-chiefs Robin Passwater and Willie Hunt.  Most recently, her boss was now-Chief Robin Passwater, who was recently appointed Chief by current Mayor Chris Curtis.

Jaenicke also served under five mayors, including new mayor Curtis.  Her tenure included the mayoural terms of Russell Johnson, Donald Green, Nina Epstein and Chasity Wells-Armstrong.
