Grundy County Crash Kills 2 People

Authorities in Grundy County investigated a 2-vehicle crash Friday that left two people dead.  The crash happened on Route 47 at the County Fairgrounds.

Grundy County Coroner John Callahan reported the car operated by 75-yr-old Sandra Viola of Arlington Heights was southbound in the northbound lanes when it struck a vehicle traveling northbound.  The northbound vehicle was driven by 57-yr-old Timothy Shride of Happy Valley, Oregon. Shride was pronounced dead at the scene and his passenger, his wife, was transported to Morris Hospital. Callahan also said it appears that there was a vehicle northbound in front of Shride and that unit swerved to avoid being hit by the wrong way driver giving Shride no time to avoid the crash.

Viola was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. She was alone in the car. Callahan said Viola may have been experiencing a medical event prior to the crash. The Morris Police Department and Grundy County Coroner’s Office are investigating the crash, which is also being reconstructed by the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office.
The Illinois State Police, Morris Fire Department and Grundy County Emergency Management Agency assisted at the scene.
