Sheriff Derek Hagen steps aside

It’s with mixed emotions that, after 29 years in law enforcement, Iroquois County Sheriff Derek Hagen walked away from his job as the county's top law enforcement officer Thursday.  Hagen left office early to pursue a new job opportunity.  The 51-year-old Hagen said thank you to the many county citizens who supported him as sheriff the last 11 years of his police career.

Hagen has given his full support to veteran-Deputy Clint Perzee, who has since gained the trust of the Iroquois County Board and the Republican Central Committee to succeed him.  Perzee will fill the 14-month vacancy and seek the office in next November’s election.

Hagen, meanwhile, says the caring, dedicated people he’s met in law enforcement will be missed.  He adds, he has no doubt the sheriff’s office is in good hands and will continue providing the citizens and communities with professional and capable police services.
