After 34 Illinois schools have been put on probation for not complying with a mask mandate, some are challenging the legality of enforcement. State Sen. Darren Bailey, who’s also running for the Republican nomination for governor, told the Illinois State Board of Education they don’t have the authority to force schools to require masks.
Milford School District #124 voted 4-2 this week to approve a transition plan for returning to school. It allows for making masks optional for students.
The St. Anne Grade School Board of Education also voted 5-2 to implement a mask-optional policy. The vote is in defiance of Governor J.B. Pritzker's indoor mask mandate for all K-12 schools. The District vote also favored a resolution to ask the state to returns local control to the local districts.
