The Iroquois West Unit #10 school board took action Monday concerning its high school football coach and a parent who were involved in an alleged altercation after a recent game.

After hearing from sides and concerned-parents, the school board ruled football coach Matt Wasilewski will remain as coach while a parent, Mike Reed, will be banned from school activities and school grounds for one year.

Sources informed WGFA News an altercation between Wasilewski and Reed stemmed from a recent game between Iroquois West and Dwight on September 9th. Dwight won the game 30-20.

The school board listened to statements from both men and witnesses to the altercation, which, according to testimony, was started by Reed when he put his hand on Wasilewski. Assistant coach Mike Barkley told the school board he tried to step between the men to defuse the situation.

Gilman Police investigated the incident. No charges have been filed.

Superintendnet Linda Dvorak said the school board is standing behind Wasilewski. The third-year coach will remain in his position.

Reed admitted he was mad about the situation. He apologized for the incident.

The school district now wants to work toward improving sportsmanship within the district. Future talks with all concerned, school officials, prants and other fans, will focus on the Illinois school code policy.
