A 12-year-old boy went missing Monday while swimming in the Vermilion River. Emergency responders in Danville have resumed the search. Danville Police report they will provide updates once information is available.
A search was suspended Monday night for safety reasons when bad weather moved across the area. Efforts resumed Tuesday before another suspension. Agencies warn the public about the turbulent river, suggesting extreme caution.
Danville Police, the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Dive Team and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources are back on the river today (Wed). Waterways are high and swift since all the rain activity during the last several days.
Two other juveniles reported the boy missing around 8:11 pm Monday. Danville Police and Fire had responding personnel on the scene 5-minutes later.
Earlier this summer, a 23-year-old man went missing in the Vermilion River. Jose Alberto Lopez-Fernandez disappeared while swimming in the river. Authorities said his body was found two days later.
