15 horses saved from fire at Pembroke ranch

Fire destroyed a barn and a horse trailer in Pembroke Township Saturday night. Fifteen horses were rescued before the fire consumed the property.

Watseka fire was among a handful of departments that responded to the call just after 11 pm. St. Anne, Momence and Bourbonnais also assisted Pembroke firemen.

Pembroke Fire Protection District Chief Mark Baines saved the horses. He responded to the call and found two structures, about 100 feet apart, on fire. The unattended ranch is at 15000 and 4500N Road.

There were no human injuries, although one horse suffered burned back hips. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
