15-year-old Kankakee juvenile held for murder, home invasion

A Kankakee teenager is under arrest in connection to the early morning murder of an alleged carjacker. Kankakee County Sheriff's Police report the 15-year-old boy is expected to appear in juvenile court today (Thurs).

The teenager's name is being withheld now, because he has not yet been charged as an adult. That is likely to change, according to authorities. The boy is charged with murder, home invasion, armed robbery, kidnapping and drug possession.
Police said the teen is accused of helping 18-year-old Cleophus Reed carjack a person's vehicle in Kankakee around 1:30 Wednesday morning, then taking the carjacking victim at gunpoint to his home in Sun River Terrace.

The alleged carjacking victim shot and killed Reed.
Though the teen is said to have been Reed's accomplice, he is tentatively being charged with murder. Under state law, defendants can be liable for murder even if the victim is an accomplice.
