2nd accused worker at Good Shepherd pleads not guilty

A not guilty plea was entered in Kankakee Circuit Court in the case of Heidi Jones. She’s the second worker from the Good Shepherd Manor in Momence accused in the death of resident Charles McLaughlin.

The 48-year-old Jones and her co-worker, Elizabeth Cook, were accused of leaving the victim in a hot van June 11, when temps exceeded 90 degrees inside the vehicle. The 69-yr-old McLaughlin was a long-term resident of the facility for men with developmental disabilities.

Both Cook and Jones have been charged with two counts of Class 3 felony counts of criminal neglect of a long-term care facility resident resulting in death.

Cook pled not guilty to the charges against her earlier this month.

Cook and Jones will next appear in court the morning of Nov. 17.
