3 children killed walking to school bus; woman charged

Twenty four-year-old Alyssa Shepherd of Rochester, IN is facing three charges of reckless homicide in a crash Tuesday morning that killed three children walking to the school bus.

Another child was flown to a Ft. Wayne hospital in critical condition.

Sgt. Tony Slocum said 6-year-old twin brothers Xzavier and Mason Ingle died at the scene Tuesday morning along with their 9-year-old sister, Alivia Stahl. All three were students at Mentone Elementary School.

The siblings and an unrelated 11-year-old boy were struck about 7 a.m. as they were crossing a two-lane road near Rochester.

Slocum says the injured boy, Maverik Lowe, was in surgery late Tuesday.

Shepherd also has been charged with passing a school bus when the arm signal is extended.
