Bond was set at $3-million for the man accused of killing another man in a gun battle outside the Kankakee County Courthouse last week. 23-year-old Miguel Andrade is charged with murder and possession of a stolen firearm. He's jailed for the shooting death of Antonio Hernandez last Thursday morning.
Kankakee Police Chief Robin Passwater said the shooting happened after a court appearance on an unrelated case. Andrade, his cousin Victor Andrade and another man were ambushed by Hernandez as they walked from the courthouse. Chief Passwater said Hernandez was in possession of multiple weapons when he approached the three men and opened fire.
Passwater also told a press conference gathering Victor Andrade was hit several times with gunfire. The other man was also shot. Miguel Andrade ran to a vehicle, grabbed a gun, then went after Hernandez in what authorities called a running gun battle. Police said Miguel surrendered to a Momence Officer afterwards.
Passwater said the men were or had been gang member, associated with the Latin Kings.
