Danville Police investigated after a 3-year-old girl died early Thursday morning from a reported fall down a flight of stairs.

Despite efforts to treat the girl’s serious injuries, she died at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center just after midnight on Thursday. Police reported the girl was unresponsive and ultimately died from her injuries. Medical reports suggest blunt force trauma as the cause of death. The girl’s family members allegedly told officers she was injured after falling down the stairs at her home.

The investigation is ongoing.
