Injuries were not life-threatening, but a four-vehicle accident on I-57 sent 16 people to Kankakee hospitals Friday evening. It happened near Manteno and shut down the northbound lanes for about an hour.

Illinois State Police report the crash happened around 6 pm.
The injured were transported to Presence St. Mary's Hospital and Riverside Medical Center. Police and fire personnel said none of the injured had life-threatening consequences.
The crash remains under investigation.

Manteno Fire Chief Scott O'Brien said that there was another wreck at the same location just one hour before the more serious crash.
