Tragedy hits a Kankakee family – a 7-year-old girl was killed after a fire consumed a home in Kankakee Saturday morning.

T'niyah Hale was killed and four others were taken to hospitals. Among the injured was the girl's uncle Robert Harris. He tried to get inside the burning home on Washington Avenue to rescue his family.

The fire broke out about 8:30 am Saturday morning. On arrival, firefighters reported there was heavy smoke and fire coming from the 2-story house.

There was no word on the cause of the fire.

Several area fire departments answered the call.
