Three families were displaced this (Tues) morning in Kankakee. A house fire in the 500-block of S. Indiana Avenue did an estimated $75,000 damage. No one was injured. The fire’s cause is under investigation. Kankakee Fire Chief Bryan LaRoche reports it appeared to be electrical, miss-use of an extension cord.
Fire personnel answered the call at 2:40 am. Heavy fire was observed from a first-floor window. This was a multi-family structure at 510/512 Indiana Avenue. The fire extended into the second floor; also exposing a home next door. The chief said there was moderate damage to the neighboring home.
Assistance from multiple agencies was requested. Fire crews were on the scene about an hour and a-half.
