Several special remembrance events/services were held over the weekend in memory of those killed in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Churches held interfaith services, fire and police departments gathered to recall that day, civic groups educated young people about the attack and how it affects all of us today and in the future, and American Legion Homes were settings for patriotic events.
In Iroquois County..... the Martinton Fire Department was the host site for this year’s remembrance event, sponsored by the Iroquois County Republican Women’s Club.
The commemoration of the anniversary of 9/11 included several county fire departments, police agencies, and other first-responders.
Sheriff Derek Hagen reminded the audience about the ultimate sacrifice from so many....adding “so many of us remember what we doing and what we were thinking on that dreaded Tuesday morning.
A 9-11 Memorial Ride included about 200 riders in parts of Ford, Champaign and Vermilion countgies Sunday. The ride honored those who died in the attack on America 15 years ago.
