$92,000 worth of meth seized by KAMEG

An 18-year-old man from Kankakee is facing drug charges following an investigation by KAMEG agents Thursday. Yisel Guadalupe Perez-Varela was arrested for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and possession of cannabis with intent.

Crystal methamphetamine and cannabis with a street value exceeding $100,000 was seized at a residence on S. Lincoln Avenue in Kankakee.

Agents recovered 2 pounds of crystal meth with an estimated street value of $92,000 and 7.7 pounds of cannabis with an estimated street value of $19,250.

KAMEG Director Christopher Koerner reports there has been an increase in the presence of meth in the area possibly due to the health hazards associated with heroin-laced fentanyl.

In a separate drug investigation (Thursday) agents seized a 9mm pistol and a half pound of cannabis from a home on S. Dearborn Ave. in Kankakee.

23-year-old Darius K. Samuels of Kankakee was arrested for possession of cannabis with intent to deliver.
