Accidental shooting brings charges for KHS student

A 17-year-old Kankakee High School student is ow facing felony charges in connection with an accidental (Wednesday). And the 17-year-old student shot was treated at a local hospital. He was in stable condition.

Police reported the shooting happened inside a moving vehicle while the vehicle was leaving a school parking lot. Polcie said the shooting was accidental.

The alleged shooter was arrested Wednesday evening and now faces two felony charges, according to police.

Kankakee Police Chief Robin Passwater confirmed that the student who is alleged to have been in possession of the weapon was charged, as a juvenile, with reckless discharge. He’s also charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, also a Class 4 felony.

Exactly where the vehicle was when the gun discharged has not been confirmed.
