The teenager shot and killed in Wilmington December 26 is now identified as a freshman student at Reed Custer High School.

15-year-old Mikey Wilkey of Godley was accidentally shot and killed by his 17-year-old cousin near the Faith Christian Church in Wilmington. Will County Investigators say the two teenagers responded to what was believed to be a church break-in. The 17-year-old then grabbed a rifle from a closet but tripped over an extension cord. The gun went off hitting the victim who died at Riverside Hospital in Kankakee.

The Will County Sheriff’s Department said the shooting was accidental and no charges were filed.
