Allhands, Garfield, Nutter seek the Watseka Mayor job

Flooding and how to manage it, rising water and garbage rates, and reducing a troubled-police pension were issues and questions Watseka’s mayoral candidates answered at a candidates forum Thursday evening.

Incumbent mayor John Allhands, alderman Mark Garfield, and former alderman Bill Nutter presented their views during a 50-minute question & answer session at the Watseka Park District. The event was broadcast on WIBK Radio. An estimated 50 viewers also watched a live broadcast via Facebook. (The FB event is available for future interest on the Watseka Area Chamber of Commerce site).

The candidates talked about moving Watseka forward while finding ways to curb spending and yet providing key city services.  All three candidates said they want to work toward improving the city. All three support the Unit 9 school referendum, saying the school system is what the community is all about. And the city’s unity in supporting education will enhance the future while improving flooding issues.
