Allhands: “We need to market ourselves”

If you want people to know you and what you’re all about, you have to market yourself. And that’s what a group of Purdue University students are telling city leaders in Watseka. Watseka Mayor John Allhands says ‘if we’re going to follow the students lead, we need to tell our story’……

"We need to find new businesses but we need to tell our story,"  Allhand said after hearing from Purdue graduate students last week. "We also have to retain current businesses and find ways to attract our younger people to stay here."

As we reported last week, the city’s enlisted the help of students at Purdue and Olivet Nazarene University to find ways to reach toward future development and find the growth opportunities.

There’s good out there. Allhands says we have to market the positives. He said the students have looked at population trends, cost of living, jobs and housing opportunity. There’s more and the word has to get out ………

"A marketing plan has to attract and we need a better website to advertise ourselves," Allhand added.

Mayor Allhands adds, the graduation rate at WCHS is already high, now we need to develop ways to keep some of our students here at home.
