Alvin teen’s courage gets State Senate honor

“Blake Kinnett Day” in Illinois is being recognized Saturday (December1).

The designation is in honor of a Vermilion County teenager diagnosed with Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD), a genetic disease that destroys the protective sheath surrounding the brain’s neurons. There is no cure.

“Blake Kinnett has been an inspiration to those around him through his courage and determination,” said State Sen. Jason Barickman. “I’m proud to have this opportunity to honor him and his family.”

Blake has been a sports fan and athlete throughout most of his young life.

In February 2017, Blake was diagnosed with ALD.

Barickman sponsored Senate Resolution 2216, designating December 1, 2018, as Blake Kinnett Day. The resolution was adopted by the Illinois Senate (Wednesday (11/28).

The community of Alvin has also named a basketball court in his honor, Kinnett’s Court. The community also plans a celebration in honor of Blake’s life while recognizing his impact on the people around him.
