Another quick overnight weather system is expected to bring a wintry mix to Central Illinois.

The National Weather Service in Lincoln has issued a winter weather advisory, running from 9 p.m. Wednesday through 9 a.m. Thursday. NWS forecasters say a brief period of freezing rain will leave a light glaze and that will be followed by about an inch of snow.

Like Tuesday morning, motorists should expect slippery road conditions Thursday morning, and are advised to take precautions during their commute.

The system will arrive in central-Illinois after 9 p.m., forecasters say. The overnight low will be around 30 degrees and bridges and untreated surfaces will be the first to be affected.

Other area counties under the advisory include Champaign, DeWitt, Logan, Macon, Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford.

On Thursday, there will be snow showers with a high near 34 degrees. Friday should be partly sunny with a high near 29 degrees, but more snow is expected to arrive late Friday night or early Saturday morning.

There is no mention of snow on Sunday, but temperatures will be much colder. Sunday’s high is expected to be only 11 degrees.
