Seventeen different fire companies responded to downtown Watseka this (Tuesday) morning when fire broke out at a 2-story apartment building at 107 N. 4th Street. After battley the flames and smoke from 5:30 am. 'til early-afternoon, the State Fire Marshall was pointing to an electric outlet and an air-conditioner as the probable cause. An Illinois State trooper passing by noticed the floames shooting from a window and notified authorities.
Seven people were displaced. No injury to them. One firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion. A dollar estimate on the loss was not available.
Watseka Assistant Chief Nick Peters said the many fire personnel did a great job containing the fire to the one building.........
The Red Cross is assisting those displaced.
