Apartment Fire Displaces 3 Kankakee Families

Damage estimates were placed at $55,000 from an apartment fie in Kankakee Thursday afternoon. No injury was reported. Nine adults and a child were displaced.  It was a two-story apartment complex in the 900-block of E. Willow Street. The fire's cause was ruled accidental.  Fire Chief Bryan LaRoche reports the fire started when burning incense fell onto a stuffed animal. 

Firefighters found heavy fire in the 11-unit building. The fire started on a first floor extension to a second floor apartment.  LaRoche said two apartments were heavily damaged by fire and another apartment sustained water damage. Bradley, Bourbonnais, Limestone and Kankakee Township fire departments provided mutal aide.
