Much of Central Illinois is under a winter storm watch from Saturday evening through Sunday. The National Weather Service has also increased its snowfall prediction. Expectations call for arctic cold and some blizzard conditions.

Parts of central Illinois could get 6 to 8 inches of snow, starting Saturday, and then temperatures and wind chill factors well below zero Sunday and Monday.

Several area schools and organizations have already cancelled classes and events for Monday.

Community leaders are urged to work with their emergency managers and have response plans in place and warming shelters opened.

The NWS reported as northwest winds increase on Sunday behind the system, blowing snow will become widespread with near blizzard conditions at times. A weather bulletin issued Friday stated "Anyone needing to do any travel should do it on Saturday because Sunday travel will be very dangerous across the area."
