State police arrested an Arkansas man near Champaign Tuesday in connection with an attempted murder in Gilman.
Meanwhile, the victim is being treated at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

36-year-old Jason Sanders of West Memphis, Ark., is jailed on a one-million bond in Iroquois County. He was was involved in an altercation in the south parking lot of the Pilot Travel Center in Gilman at 9:30 Tuesday night.

Iroquois County State’s Attorney Jim Devine said the fight between Sanders and the shooting victim stemmed from mis-communication with the trucking company where both men were employed.

Devine explained the two men were to exchange assignments at Gilman, but both were unaware of the company-
directive. That led to the argument and the shooting.

Sanders ended up shooting a 48-year-old man twice before leaving the scene in a semitrailer. State troopers and sheriff deputies stopped his rig in Champaign County and took him into custody.

The shooting victim was first taken to Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka before he was transferred to Carle. He was listed in stable condition.

Sanders has been charged with attempted murder and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. Additional charged were filed Thursday in Iroquois Circuit Court.

Sanders had bond set at $1-million by Judge Michael Sabol.
